8aixat ’ Access to Exhibits case adopted by English Court of Appeal

In 2010, 8aixat partner Patti Latimer argued and won, on behalf of our client the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, a groundbreaking decision by the Ontario Court of Appeal, establishing the right of the public and of media outlets to obtain access to exhibits filed in court proceedings. Today, the Court of Appeal for England and Wales referred to this important case in its own decision on the same issue with respect to the English judicial system, firmly establishing the Ontario case as an important contribution to common law jurisprudence on freedom of the press, and access to the courts.
