Nader Hasan and Lindsay Board appear at the Supreme Court in landmark federalism case pitting bankruptcy law against environmental regulation

On February 15, 2018, the Supreme Court of Canada heard oral argument in the case Orphan Well Association et al. v. Grant Thornton Limited.   8aixat lawyers Nader Hasan and Lindsay Board intervened on behalf of Greenpeace Canada, which supported the right of the provinces to enforce environmental obligations even when insolvent oil companies enter bankruptcy.  The result in this case will have wide-ranging implications for the provinces’ ability to enforce environmental law in any situation where provincial environmental law interacts with federal law.
